Replacement Gas Lift for Office Chairs and Gaming Chairs

Buy a new gas lift if the lift in your office chair or gaming chair has stopped working. The gas lift is a wear component and will eventually need replacement after years of use.

But will this gas lift fit your chair?

To ensure compatibility, there are three important measurements to check:

• The top connection

• The bottom connection

• The length of the lift

Length and Height Adjustment

The length of the outer tube determines the height adjustment range of your chair. The measurement we list as the length refers to the outer black tube.

Keep in mind that part of the tube sits inside the chair base, which can make it a bit difficult to measure accurately while it is still installed. However, being off by a few centimeters is usually not a problem. The only difference will be a slightly higher or lower seating range.

This can even be an advantage, as you may choose a gas lift that provides a better sitting height than your current one.

Standard Top Diameter

The chrome tube that goes into the chair seat has a diameter of Ø27 mm.
At the very top it is slightly conical, tapering about 3 mm, allowing it to lock firmly into the seat mechanism.

Approximately 95% of all office chairs use this standard top dimension, making this gas lift compatible with a wide range of chairs.

Bottom Diameter (Chair Base)

The bottom of the gas lift is also slightly conical.

• Diameter where it sits inside the base: approx. Ø47 mm

• Diameter where it can be measured from the outside: Ø50 mm

This particular model does not extend far through the chair base. Depending on the base design, it normally protrudes less than 10 mm on the underside.

Some gas lifts have a different design and extend much deeper into the base. Those types cannot be replaced with this model.

Removing the Old Gas Lift

Removing the old gas lift can sometimes be challenging.

It is usually fairly easy to release it from the chair base, but removing it from the seat mechanism can be much harder. Often the lift must be loosened using a large hammer.
